Read about ABCA newbie Adie Schafner

Hello, I'm Adie. Born in South Africa, my heart always yearned to contribute to a cause bigger than myself. Yet, life's demands made it challenging to find the time for charitable endeavours. For me, joining a charity wasn't just about giving back, it was about connecting on a deeper level with the core purpose and mission at hand. My quest led me to a serendipitous moment in November 2022.

On a sunny day, as I walked along my regular route, a familiar face from Shelford - a school I was considering for my daughter - beckoned me. Inside a shed, she and her students were immersed in a task that would soon captivate me: packing books for underprivileged children in Africa. ABCA, as I would come to know, was everything I had been searching for: a charity with a purpose and a mission I deeply resonated with, without demanding too much of my already scarce time.  At the bi-monthly book packing sessions through our collective effort I know that we are bringing smiles to the faces of countless underprivileged children in Africa. The warmth and camaraderie shared amongst the volunteers creates a passionate synergy.

Today, my passion for ABCA's mission has ignited the same flame in my children, who now proudly volunteer alongside me. The universe indeed works in mysterious ways, and for me, it guided me to a cause where I can make a real difference.
