Afrika Tikkun Foundation - Cape Town

ABCA books were delivered to the Afrika Tikkun Foundation by the Union of Jewish Women (Cape Town). Read the thank you letter from Agnes Sibanda:

On the 1st of September 2023, the Australian Books for children of Africa donated books for young people at our AT Mfuleni Centre. Young people were also given books on loan which gave them a chance to read at home.

We have identified a lack of literacy skills in young people from grades 1-4 who struggle to read. This donation has helped enormously towards the build-up of the Celebration of World Literacy Day. The event took place at the Afrika Tikkun Centre in Mfuleni.  We do run a library service for young people to read at home with the support of parents or siblings and this contribution added greatly to our much needed resources.

On the day the book club met and young people reviewed the book that they were reading together. The young people were confident enough to volunteer to read. They also showed their engagement and newly found confidence to ask questions and to be open about discussion of things they did not understand.

The donated books were described to the young people who then had the opportunity to borrow the books because they seemed interesting and they were inspired to read them.

Your support not only enriches the lives of those who will benefit from these books but also inspires our team to continue striving for excellence in our efforts. With your donation, we are one step closer to fostering a community of lifelong learners and readers.

Once again, thank you for your kindness and generosity. Your commitment to making a difference in the lives of others is truly commendable, and we are honored to have your support.
