Our Work

We operate our book recycling system as efficiently as possible.

Australia

Our Australian volunteers collect, sort and pack the books donated by schools and individuals. Each book is stamped with our unique ABCA Koala to indicate that the books have come from Australia.

Africa

Our African volunteers and representative ensure that the books are delivered to recipient schools with educators who are passionate about providing the best possible education for their students despite the lack of adequate resources available to them.

Our African representatives keep in contact with the schools to which the books are distributed. They are therefore able to report whether books donated were appropriate for  the students and whether the books are adequately protected and preserved by the school. So far ABCA has distributed books to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Ghana.

Sourcing books

We source books from schools, libraries, publishers and households. Many Australian schools, when updating their libraries discard books that are no longer required and are in good condition.

In Africa these books are treasured as many schools do not have a library or sufficient text books. We collect these books and they form the vital raw material of ABCA.
